Description

This is one of the classic wines of Campania, created by Maria Ida and Tani Avallone at their splendid winery at Cellole, from a volcanic area which lies in the northern part of the province of Caserta.

Villa Matilde Camarato Falerno del Massico Rosso is made only in the finest growing years with grapes from the vineyard of the same name, one of the San Castrese estate’s oldest and best-aspected vineyards, planted on the slopes of the extinct Roccamonfina volcano. Showing a dark, deep red, it vaunts an emphatic, long-lingering bouquet of black and red wild berryfruit, black pepper, chocolate, espresso bean, and vanilla, complemented by a palate that is warm and dry. This is a complex, elegant, and powerful wine.

It has an ageing capacity of 20 years.

Soil: Volcanic with good supply of phosphorus and potassium

Altitude of Vineyards: 150 mt s.l.m.

Harvest: Last week of October

Vinification: The grapes selected by hand, are pressed gently and the must fermented for 20/25 days at a temperature of about 25 °C, followed by malolactic fermentation in barrels. Allier Oak barrels for 12/18 months (1/3 new, 1/3 of a second pass, 1/3 of the third pass) and bottle aged for another 12/18 months.

Grape Varieties: 80% Aglianico, 20% Piedirosso

Ideal Serving temperature: Between 16 & 18°C
