Taurasi, the crown jewel wine from Campania, often likened to Barolo is a wine made from the Aglianico grape which produces full-bodied red wines that show berry flavours with firm tannins and good ageing potential. There are several theories concerning the origin of the name Aglianico, all of which underline its ancient roots. But even more fascinating than the grape’s past is its future.
Vinification: De-stemming, crushing, cold maceration and long fermentation to 26°C. Maceration with the pomace for over 20 days. At the end of the alcoholic fermentation follows malolactic fermentation in traditional oak casks. They are then aged in oak barrels for 18 months and another 12 months in the bottle.
Tasting Notes: Ruby red colour with purple hints. Rich and complex on the nose with notes of liquorice, red and black berries and a delicate hint of violets. Austere and elegant on the palate.
