Description

Feudi di San Gregorio Lacyrma Christi is one of the most traditional wines from Campania. It is a wine of legend. The name Lacyrma Christi literally translates to “The Tears of Christ.” There are a few stories of how this name came to be. One goes that when Jesus was ascending to heaven, he glanced down at the earth and saw the Bay of Naples. It was so beautiful that he wept tears of joy. His tears fell on the slopes of Mount Vesuvius where vines then grew. A more modern story tells of local monks who didn’t have filtering equipment; thus the wine was passed through canvas. As it fell drop by drop, it looked like tears.

Production Area: Directly around the great Mount Vesuvius, vines are planted in volcanic soil. From vines ranging from 15 – 25 year-old planted at 2,000 – 4,500 vines per hectare.

Grape Varieties: 80% Coda di Volpe, 20% Falanghina

Vinification: Grape bunches are hand-harvested in mid-late September into 18 kilo crates. The crates are then transported in refrigerated trucks (50º F) to the winery. Bunches are individually selected and soft-pressed followed by cold settling at 57˚F for 24-48 hours. The juice is cold-fermented in stainless steel vats between 61 – 64˚F and does not undergo malolactic fermentation.

Colour: Straw yellow

Bouquet: Fresh aromas of white fleshed fruit and citrus peel.

Taste: Smooth and fresh with an elegant mineral element.

Alcohol: 12.6%

Serving Suggestions: Delicious with seafood, pasta, risotto, sushi and sashimi
