Galardi Terra Di Lavoro-The ‘Super Campanian’
The Galardi winery is set among magnificent chestnut groves in the high hills of Sessa Aurunca, in north-western Campania, and on a clear day the Mediterranean can be seen in the distance. The family-owned estate, run with the help of consultant winemaker Riccardo Cotarella, produces just one wonderful wine: Terra Di Lavoro, a deeply concentrated blend of Aglianico (80%) and Piedirosso (20%). Aglianico is one of Italy’s noblest grapes, and not by chance it is nicknamed the “Nebbiolo of the South”. This is a black, brooding, long-ageing red – one of Southern Italy’s very best wines.
“Galardi’s Terra di Lavoro is a legend in wine making. It is a fabulously ripe, rich and seductive wine endowed with beautifully articulated dark plums, ash, leather, liquorice, all of which melt together in an explosive, utterly thrilling display of class and elegance. Clean, mineral notes frame the eternal finish. 95+ points”. Robert Parker Wine Advocate.
“Galardi…An exotic melange of tar, smoke, graphite, blackberry jam and savoury herbs explode from the glass. The 2010 is intense and full-bodied, yet also incredibly elegant. A big, breathtaking wine, the 2010 continues to build all the way through to a deeply resonant, expressive finish. 97+ points.” Antonio Galloni, Wine Advocate, Feb 2013
“Galardi…A unique wine with iodine, red seaweed, mineral and dried fruits with hints of figs. Balsamic. You can feel the warmth of the volcanic soil. Full body with soft and silky tannins. Stylish and characterful. Better in a year or two. You need to try this. 98 points”. James Suckling
Without question, the Galardi Terra Di Lavoro 2010 is stunning. Deep, finely spiced, with notes of ripe plums, blueberries, almond paste, minerals and earth. As delicious as it is collectable, the ’10 Terra Di Lavoro stands as a crowning achievement for this estate. Bottled unfined and unfiltered after 12 months in 100% new oak. A ‘Super Campanian’.
